![]() Hello and welcome to another episode of Problems and Prophecies: a show where I, Seamus, will give you insight into the life of a modern witch. All advice is for your interpretation and should be taken with a grain of salt. Are you stuck in a divination rut? Are tarot cards just “not doing it for you”? Well fear not, because there are many other ways to receive answers from the beyond. Scrying is one of the most stereotypical forms of divination, whether or not it is referred to as “scrying” in Hollywood. The classic Romani fortune teller starring into a crystal ball includes the use of scrying. It is a visual meditation state where one relaxes their mind to receive images that answer pressing questions. Many people use a black mirror to scry, but the method can be used with fire, trees, or the famous crystal ball. If you’ve ever been daydreaming in class, you’ve already begun the to scry without knowing it. This state of relaxation is the first step to actually scrying. You must then go further to fully relax your body and really open yourself up to whatever messages you may receive, but don’t fall asleep. Beauty rest doesn’t make you psychic, and while most people don’t see much in their first few attempts, it’s important to remember that every skill takes practice. Pendulums are by far one of the easiest methods for beginners, and you can actually see the answers coming to you. A pendulum is simply a weight attached to a piece of string or chain. Most pendulums use a crystal for a weight, but metal and wood are other common materials. The user places their arm on a solid base, like a table, and lets the pendulum hang from their hand. From there, you just ask away and the pendulum will swing in the direction of the answer. However, this will only work if you program the pendulum. It’s like a weird witchy computer that lacks any software when you buy it, so carry it around for a couple of days so that it can “attune” itself to your energies. Then when you go to actually use the pendulum, ask it to show you “yes”, “no”, and “maybe/I don’t know”. This goes for all pendulums you purchase; they won’t all have the same method of answering. For example, most of my pendulums answer with nods for “yes” and shaking side-to-side for “no”, but I have a couple that answer differently. I’ll write a post in the future about pendulums, because all of that is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s also important to remember that there are many unconventional methods of divination. One of my favorites is Spotify, or any music outlet for that matter. Music can really “put you in the mood” for witchcraft, and is prefect is you want something witchy on the go. Take your music library, ask a question, and put it on shuffle. The first song that comes up is the “answer”; interpret it how you want, there isn’t really a right or wrong answer. Unless Nickelback starts playing, then the only answer is to immediately obliterate whatever device you’re listening to. Experiment with new and different methods of divination, and leave a comment below on any you think could be used. Scry for the future, swing for the past, don’t listen to Nickelback, and I’ll see you next time on Problems and Prophecies. Goodbye! P.S. Sorry there isn't a podcast this week; there should be one next time.
